Jelena Vasiljev was born in Zrenjanin, ex-Yugoslavia in 1976. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Brera, Milan in 2006 with a degree in Sculpture. In 2008 she received a MFA from the same Academy. She also attended the whole program of Classical Philology studies at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Philosophy, Serbia between 1995 – 1999. For several years she has been a member of the Yugoslav National Karate Team, kumite. She represented her country in many championships.
In 1999 she moved to Milan, Italy and began her carrier as a visual artist. Her work is mainly focused around different issues connected to the social and political dimension, on the intersections and clashes of civilizations, about basic human relations and blood ties. Beside numerous solo exhibitions Jelena Vasiljev participated in many international group exhibitions. Her works can be found in private and public collections in Italy, Czech Republic, Serbia, Germany, Switzerland, USA, Korea etc. For the last 15 years she has been working with sculptures, installations, performances, video, photography. She lives and works in Milan, Italy.
